1. Vacancy

He was walking down the road
Wearing the darkest clothes
And the clouds were forming high
In the rust colored sky
And at the fork in the road
He put down his heavy load
There was a sign on a post
That read To the Holy Ghost

He fell down on his knees
And said "Please,
Make the sun go down
To cool off this ground
Cause there's a burning in my soul
That feels like the hottest coal"

There was an old adobe church
With a Cadillac outside
Two ravens on a perch
And the doors were open wide
And the woman seemed like a ghost
As she slowly approached
She said "As you can surely see
There's always vacancy"

And he fell down on his knees
And said "Please, If you take me in
It will feel like a sin
Cause there's a burning in my soul
That feels like the hottest coal"

She said "We've got preachers and thieves
It doesn't matter what you believe"
Just then the sun went down
And the raven's left their perch
And the wind caught the sound
Through the old adobe church

And the only thing he could see
Was the word vacancy

2. You Shot Me

You shot me baby
Like a cowboy in an old time movie
You shot me baby
Now what am I doing here
I'm lying now
In tears and dust
Cause you shot me baby
With broken dreams and trust

You were playing Russian roulette
You pulled the trigger
And now you made your bed

And it's criminal
How you moved through my life
I didn't think you were the kind
To carry a gun or a knife
But you shot me baby
With another round of words
Then you stood over me
To make sure that I was hurt

You were playing Russian roulette
You pulled the trigger
And now you made your bed

When the smoke cleared
You went on your way
But the evidence here
Right where I lay
And they say you get what you get
But the only thing you have now
Is a heart filled with regret

You were playing Russian roulette
You pulled the trigger
And now you made your bed

3. Desert Rain

Walking down this desert road
I remember all the stories I was told
My mama came here cause it was paradise
My daddy was just rolling the dice

When I was a little girl
There was good and bad in my desert world
Yeah there were things I wish I'd never seen
That stole my innocence
And scared the hell out of me
And I just prayed for the desert rain

But I won't let things like that ruin my memories
Cause there were cool nights and stuff like
My mama's hugs and her sweet, sweet smile
That made all those hot days worth while
And I just played in the rain
Just played in the desert rain

People try to tell you about the desert heat
But It is something so hard to believe
Cause I was walking to school one day, you see
And I truly believed the sun was going to kill me
And I just prayed for the rain

You gotta wait for the sun to go down
It takes the hot day and quiets the town
Playing music under a starlit sky
Drinking whiskey and sometimes champagne
Just waiting for the desert rain
Waiting for the desert rain

4. Take It

I know where you're going baby
I know where you've been
You're knockin' on my door
And I don't want to let you in

Cause I've been to hell
And you look familiar right now
So take your sweet talk home
I know what you're about
Take it, take it

Well I've been on fire
And I've been so cold
Don't want to hang on a wire
So do what you've been told

If voodoo really worked
We'd all be down on our knees
Cause there's always someone
That we could not please
So take it, take it

If memories are a curse
Then this is something worse
Cause you won't forget me
And someday your dreams will burst

If voodoo really worked
We'd all be down on our knees
Cause there's always someone
That we could not please
Take it, take it

I know where you're going baby
I know where you've been
You're knockin' on my door
And I don't want to let you in

Cause I've been to hell
And you look familiar right now
So take your sweet talk home
I know what you're about
Take it

5. The Devil Next to You

I gotta be honest
When I look across this room
There is something here
That fills me with gloom
That ol' jukebox keeps playing your song
And the people keep dancing
They don't know what went on

They can't see the Devil
Sitting next to you
And you can't drink enough whiskey
To drown the ugly truth

I get this feeling and I start to squirm
Like the reddest apple
Hiding a hungry worm
So go ahead and take a big, big bite
You'll find what I'm talking about
And you just might

Find yourself on the run
Like a felon with a gun
But you'll still be running from the truth
And the hold it's got on you.

They can't see the Devil sitting next to you
And I can't drink enough whiskey
To drown the ugly truth

I get this feeling
When I look across this room
There is always something
That reminds me of you

6. Damaged

Oh no, you saw me weak
Now I feel like I've got to leave
I seemed to have crossed such a thin, thin line
I should've known better, should've seen the sign

I broke such a simple rule
You know I can't fix it I don't have the right tool
Should've known better I suppose
All your past lovers were just a needle and a pose

Damaged people are never really free
I guess that's why someone like you
Found someone like me

I guess that's why someone like you
Found someone like me

I'm not the kind of girl who likes to fight just to make up
If things are that hard it usually ends in breaking up
But sometimes two cars will crash in the night
They're going the same direction, just trying to get it right
I give up you win
You are forever under my skin

Damaged people are never really free
I guess that's why someone like you
Found someone like me

I guess that's why someone like you
Found someone like me

You are forever under my skin

7. Nothing New

Listening to the jukebox
Wondering where you are
Time passes slowly
In this Tuesday night bar
Every man who walks in
I was wishing was you

This is nothing new

Single girls and heartaches
Waiting for another date
Same ol' story
How she gives and he takes
I listen on the sidelines
Like a repeat fan
Waiting for another show
With a brand new man

This is nothing
This is nothing new

I was in a deep slumber
When you called my number
I let you go on your way,
I Let you think you had the last say
You're bad for me and I know it
But I'll be the last one to show it

This is nothing
This is nothing new

8. Stumbling

You were drunk and there was a full moon
Maybe I left way too soon
Words fell out like ashes from a tomb
Like salt in a wound

Hopes and dreams all twisted in the night
Chasing something we will never find
Pushing and pulling at all the wrong times
Can't hear you thoughts and that's not a crime

I'm stumbling through the black clouds
Looking for the sun
There wasn't a fight and nobody won
Stumbling through the black clouds
Looking for the sun
If it was all nothing
Why am I so undone

Pushing and pulling at all the wrong times
My heart keeps slipping every time you're unkind
Now we're both broken for all to see
This short hard ride took a lot out of me

I'm stumbling through the black clouds
Looking for the sun
There wasn't a fight and nobody won
Stumbling through the black clouds
Looking for the sun
If it was all nothing
Why am I so undone

9. Whiskey Lie

There was a light in your eyes last night
And you said when the morning came
We were going to ride away
I felt like an angel then
You knew just what to say to make me bend
Now this town is just too damn small
I feel like they're gonna watch me fall

It was just another whiskey lie
Just another lonely girl caught up in the night
Just another foolish alibi
Just another reason to ask why, to ask why

The rain falls hard on this old worn roof
And I've been waiting so long for god to prove
That there is a light at the end of this long night
But I don't think she's got enough time to set all of these things right

It was just another whisky lie
Just another lonely girl caught up in the night
Just another foolish alibi
Just another reason to ask why, to ask why

10. Tastes Like a Heartache

I finally ran into you
It was how I thought it would be
I was a little thrown, and it was so bittersweet
Sure enough the past slowly crept in
I was happy to see you, but I remember when

The air was thick with blue night scars
Drunken dreams and perfect guitars
To go back now would be a bittersweet mistake
Cause the bottom line is, it tastes like a heartache

So I grabbed my drink to wash it down
So much to say, but too many people around
I almost fell again for you
Between the smoke and these aching blues

The air was thick with blue night scars
Drunken dreams and perfect guitars
To go back now would be a bittersweet mistake
Cause the bottom line is, it tastes like a heartache
The bottom line is, it tastes like a heartache

And there's a place that nobody knows
Where the melodies last like faith and a rose

When the air gets thick with blue night scars
Drunken dreams and perfect guitars
I remember that's what caused us to break
The bottom line is, it tastes like a heartache
Yeah, The bottom line is, it tastes like a heartache
